![]() ![]() ![]() Yet, nobody knows what happened to Human Head, a fate much worse in my opinion. When people heard what happened to Vince Zampella and his team with Call of Duty, people were up in arms about it. Bethesda/ZeniMax should be accountable for what they did, and sadly boycotting their product is the only meaningful way. ![]() Fight the power, am I right?Ĭalling Prey 2017 good is stretching it. Yeah, you yell at Bethesda ''I DON'T LIKE GOOD GAMES, PLEASE STOP MAKING THOSE''. I bet it's going to really help the variety and the quality of AAA games on offer if you take a stand and boycott Arkane's best game. I feel like Bethesda shrugs this shit right off but it could hurt Arkane who just make rad games and don't deserve that shit. I'd rather have the Prey made by Human Head, youknow.bèfore Bethesda scumbags made an hostile take-over to gain the studio's assets. Heck, we'll eventually need a tangentially bounty-hunter related game to topple " Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath". A lot of people have given voice to similar sentiment, so it wouldn't surprise me if that game was made one day. But there's definitely still a part of me that misses the original idea of a far-future bounty hunter. This here second game is just a modern System Shock, with a great story to match. Overall, it was a really fun experience that I remember fondly. It had a ton of ideas, and executed some of 'em incredibly well, others not so much. The original, I really enjoyed as one of 'em better B-Tier games Vinny often speaks of. I've played both games, though I ain't quite finished with 2017 Prey. And not in the obvious way you'd expect from the beginning, it plays with the concept quite a bit. I could sell amazing oysters to someone who's already had them because you know what is special about them, but otherwise people are gonna go, 'well that's just like a clam to me'.While I completely agree with you in general, and find the way they reuse the IP ridiculous the title "Prey" actually fits this here game perfectly. "If you've never had amazing oysters, for example, it's really hard to sell that to anyone. ![]() But I don't think as a company-and I'm talking like between Bethesda and Arkane-I don't think we did a good job at really selling it to a bigger number of people." If you look at it and you know what immersive sims are you totally see it, and you know that you're going to love it. "It's very 'inside baseball' kind of thing, almost. "I think we did a great job at selling this game to people who would naturally like this game," he said. But in a 2021 interview with MinnMax, Colantonio reflected on other marketing challenges facing the game, and immersive sims in general, which despite being widely regarded as cornerstone games remain a relatively niche interest. Bethesda actually announced one in 2011 with a very cool cinematic trailer, but pulled the plug several years later, saying that "it wasn't up to our quality standard." Interest in the cancelled sequel has persisted in the years since then, though, reflecting some real enthusiasm for what might have been.Īrkane's Prey famously did not sell well, despite being an outstanding immersive sim, and the confusion surrounding the title and connection to the original game (or lack thereof) no doubt did not help. It was also a kick in the face to fans of the original who were looking forward to a proper sequel. And the sales were horrible, by the way, of Prey. "I was like, it's gross, that's not what I wanted to do. "It never was our intention to steal their IP and make it ours," he said. Colantonio also called the decision "a kick in the face" of the developers of the original game, and said he's often wanted to apologize to the team for doing it. ![]()
